Group Training

MITA provides a broad range of services to the automotive industry.

Group Training is uniquely Australian and has been described as one of "Australia's Best Kept Secrets" in a report by a Parliamentary Select Committee.

The Automotive Industry was one of the first industries to form a group Training Scheme in the early 1980's.

The concept is simple, its acceptance widespread.

Group Training functions in the following manner: Apprentices and trainees are

indentured to an Incorporated Group Employment company (or scheme) rather than individual employers. The labour of the apprentices and trainees is hired or sub-contracted out to particular "host" employers working in the required trade or occupation that the training agreement specifies. The Group Scheme retains all the rights and responsibilities of an employer over the apprentices and trainees.

Through the planned rotation of the apprentices with various employers provides exposure to a wider variety of skills.

Host Employer placement and training progress is structured and monitored to ensure all apprentices or trainees receive instruction in accordance with the accredited training program.

This concept combined with the National Competency Standards and Assessment methods affords the greatest opportunity for all the required competencies to be achieved within the training period.

The monitoring of training is an ongoing process and as such the potential for enhancing the standards of industry skilling is immense.
